Acme Bar & Grill
The secret of this po’ boy and jambalaya purveyor is that if you scoot past the tables and step up to the back bar on a Tuesday, tap beers (Acme ale and Michelob Light) are two bucks all night. Bourbon Street
With enough bras hung behind the bar to rival a small Victoria’s Secret, bead-bedazzled Bourbon Street aims to be a year-round Mardi Gras party. It certainly achieves that rowdiness on Thursdays, when prepsters attempt to “beat the clock”: Beginning at 9pm, Bud drafts are a mere 50¢ each; the price rises to $1 from 10pm to midnight, at which point the cost gets bumped to $2 until close. Gotham City Lounge
Attracting comics fans and other scantily paid bloggers, this friendly, cheapo hang feels more like a fanboy’s basement than a dive, but with $1 cans of Rolling Rock on Wednesdays and $3 PBR-and-well-whiskey combos all day, every day, even Batman would be tempted to swoop in for a cold one. 1293 Myrtle Ave between Central Ave and Hart St, Bushwick, Brooklyn (718-387-4182, myspace.com/gclny)

Jake’s Dilemma
If you’ve got a thirsty gang on your hands, the mishmash of worn, spring-challenged furniture in the back room at Jake’s makes for a great conversation pit to while away a few hours—especially on Mondays from 8pm to 4am, when domestic drafts are a buck and shots will cost you $3. 430 Amsterdam Ave at 81st St (212-580-0556, nycbestbar.com/jakes)

Mercury Bar
While Mercury is certainly not hiding its true sports-bar colors (note the multiple, monstrous flat-screen TVs throughout the bordello-red-walled watering hole), nice touches like button-back leather booths, diamond-shaped wooden wine-storage bins and twinkling votive candles make it feel more chic than Citi Field. Throw in $4 happy-hour shots like kamikazes and Woo Woos from 4 to 8pm daily and you won’t even need a home team to root for. 659 Ninth Ave at 46th St (212-262-7755, mercurybarnyc.com)

The Stumble Inn
Even with two walls of windows looking out onto Second Avenue, after-work tie-looseners craving big burgers are more apt to be glued to the 20 flat-screens at this UES sports bar. Third & Long
Attracting the team-jersey-clad Murray Hill set, this no-frills Irish-owned sports pub has 16 beers on tap, and will keep you raising a glass to your athletic heroes with nine-ounce $1 drafts on Mondays and Tuesdays (4pm–4am) and $3 PBRs all the time. 523 Third Ave at 35th St (212-447-5711,thirdandlongnyc.com)

The Thirsty Scholar
As the name suggests, you’re likely to find solo-sitting book readers at the bar, along with chums chatting about the day’s op-ed page—but it doesn’t take a genius to know that the $4 well drinks from 5 to 8pm Monday through Wednesday (and 2 to 8pm Thursday through Sunday) are a booze lover’s bargain. 155 Second Ave between 9th and 10th Sts (212-777-6514, ryansnyc.com)

Three of Cups
At the restaurant upstairs, knock 20% off wood-fired pizzas (ten-inch $9–$11, 16-inch $16–$20) and decent Southern Italian fare from 5 to 6:30pm Sunday through Thursday. The Village Tavern

According to the HuffPo, this ad was pulled in Brazil because of the “sensual nature”, but the back story not printed is that Brazilians just don’t like Paris Hilton and want her no where near their ad spaces, TV, or in the public eye. Good Job Brazil!!

Margaret Ryan has extensively explored the topic here, including a video post as this greatly effects the way Britain’s drinking culture will consume and fight with their next pint.

Having a hundred dollar night drinking in the city is just expected when you’re boozing anything more than beer or wine. With Rob Cockerham’s cocktail calculator, you can figure out how much profit your bar is making off the 7 Bombay Tonic’s you just pounded over the last 4 hours (at you’re typical Manhattan lounge, you just added $96 to their wallets).

If anything you can use the tool to help build you’re own bulk bar for that next house party. Here’s Rob’s methods should you need to make any adjustments.

Hoping to expand their customer base by adding the drunk douchebag tourist element, the Burger King in Times Square New York is adding beer to the beverage list. Now for $7.99, a 21+ customer can purchase a whopper combo with Miller or Bud instead of soda ($2.00 more). From the Daily News:

Arnold Lyons, 58, of the Bronx, said he didn’t think it was a good idea because so many kids eat at Burger King “There’s already enough trouble without Burger King selling beer,” he said. “You don’t take your kids to a bar.”

Personally we think you should be taking your kids to the green market or pick up a piece of fruit then to serve them fastfood all the time. Beer slightly edges out soda regarding health levels, according to Natural Bias, only because we really don’t know what’s in highly processed beers like Bud Light or Miller High Life. I’d rather have a brew with my e coli burger any day but are they going to offer free refills?

Here’s one of their latest for the new year – his International pub crawl. (Something we’d love to accomplish but as he notes, it’s quite difficult geographically without proper transportation.

We are counting down the days to the end of what TIME magazine calls the Decade of Hell – bookended by 9/11 at the start, financial meltdown at the end, and whole lotta Bush years in the middle. There’s still a lot of uncertainty and world unrest moving forward but let’s take some time to celebrate 4 great years of Gotham PubCrawlers for our last crawl of 2009; celebrating with the Yell of karaoke masters!

This time we’ll be boozing it up in a new hood – Chinatown with a new theme to grease the pipes with more than booze: your voices. We’ll be hitting 4 possibly 5 Karaoke spots this crawl all giving the participants plenty of options to liquor up and pick out your favorite songs to bring in the Holiday season or close out the decade.

The weather is looking clear for us, but it will be cold and prep for a few long walks between locals. There aren’t too many pubcrawl friendly spots in the Chinatown & LES area – there’s a high percentage of high end cocktail lounges with Apotheke, East Side Company Bar, The Randolph, Gold Bar, Milk & Honey, and White Star to name a few.

We’ll be starting out a locals billiards spot in Chinatown: Tropical. I’ve been assured they’ve secured their liquor license, however, if that in any way changes, we’ll be moving up the line up…

Next stop is Mullberry Street Bar, the unofficial home base of the Tony Soprano fan club. They’ve also got karaoke in the back, however, be warned the rooms might not be prepped for us just yet.

We’re going to move on to a British gastropub in Brinkley’s, the reincarnation of Bar Martignetti. Sample at least 8 local brews and many more international favorites, however, don’t forget to order the now British classic deep-fried Mars bar.

At 5 PM we’ll be moving into the small but comfortable bakery with a screened back room and a stocked bar: Oro Bakery and Bar. We’ll have Buy-One-Get-One-Free drinks for the time we’ll be there. The crew will be doubling back to Baby Grand where we’ve reserved the bar for our crew for our next Karaoke spot. Don’t be late for this one!

After getting the pipes warmed up, we’re headed deep into Chinatown to Yello karaoke cocktail lounge. Followed by Asia Roma and Winnie’s Bar – all supporting the karaoke theme. Remember all, the moves are just as important as the vocals.

We’ll start to make our way back up to LES, stopping the only true tavern in Chinatown, and the bail bonds man hang out, Whiskey Tavern. Fontana’s Bar and Lucky Jack’s will close out the night unless you’ll be ready for more at 2nd on 2nd.
