2008: 11 – Tribeca Pub Crawl

New York pub crawls: Because your regular drinking dens are like following the spin-dry cycle

This is our 17th Pubcrawl in 3 years and one of the few members that have not only attended nearly every crawl, but has made it through from start to finish (we’ll forgive a nap here n there) is Russell. This round will be Russell’s last before heading off to London so we’re touring the old NY neighborhood area of the Triangle Below Canal or TriBeCa.

Tribeca was recently ranked by Forbes as one of America’s most expensive zip codes but this crawl will highlight some of the diviest bars in Manhattan serving up 3 dollar beers and plenty of old school attitude. Our first few bar hops are right off the Chambers St stops for the 1, 2, 3 and A or C (if coming from Grand Central Station you can take the 4 or 5 to Brooklyn Bridge – City Hall station). We are starting with two local dives beginning with the Raccoon Lodge and then the Patriot Saloon. If you don’t meet at least one memorable salty dog in either of these two spots you’re not trying.

Reade Street Pub is next going north, serves up good pub food fair and big cheap drinks – break out your art skills with the crayons and chalk in the bathroom… Puffy’s Tavern, up Hudson st is your quintessential neighborhood bar with friendly staff that many area residents call their local. Walkers is a similar style pub on N Moore with a casual fair, good food and again…crayons.

We’ll take a detour here down to South’s, a popular spot for those hiding out from Jury duty or just want a good beer pour. …C-Bar… AnotherRoom is right next door and will complete our trifecta of hitting all three of Craig Weiss’s pubs in Manhattan – good crafted brews, excellent tunes and friendly patrons.

Just across the park is Nancy’s, a local spot I’ve frequented but have not waded in the kiddie pool in front during the summers. The pull here is the bank Shuffleboard table, get your competition on! Our last spot is the very large M1-5 Lounge which has pool and usually DJs for the evening.
